QUESTION:
I’m 60 yrs old now and graduation day from the state psych tech school is here. The fbi background check is also coming and I’m wondering if this will prevent me from working with the state hospital?
ANSWER:
Conventional wisdom is to over disclose on an application for licensure rather than to under disclose. California employers are generally prohibited from taking adverse action on an arrest that never lead to a conviction, but the rules are a little different for licensing boards. I’m assuming you would fall under the board of vocational nurses but I could be wrong. You should speak to someone who specializes in licensing. The digitization of record from the early 80s is spotty, but the appearance of hiding something is problematic.
