QUESTION:
I got an FTA for a traffic ticket five years ago, although I got my original ticket dropped, I still had to pay for the FTA. I was never told it would be a misdemeanor, and I was never booked or fingerprinted, and I called my local law library and they couldn’t find any charges against me. But when I called the traffic court they said it could be a misdemeanor. What I want to know is if it will show up on a livescan for a certificate of clearance to become a teacher. If it does, will I be denied? Also, if it doesn’t do I need to disclose it?
Thank you.
ANSWER:
What county was it out of? If it was a traffic infraction, it’s not an issue. If it was a misdemeanor, there’s a good chance it will be dismissed as violative of your right to a speedy trial.
